An analysis by the state food safety department in Tamil Nadu has found that one in every 10 eateries in the state sells stale or unhygienically prepared fish and meat. Food inspectors conducted inspections in over 19,000 eateries and found non-compliance in over 2,000 cases. The health department has ordered inspections to ensure awareness among food handlers and consumers, emphasizing the importance of sourcing raw materials from the right places and preserving them at the right temperature. Unsafe water used in food preparation is a common source of contamination.
