48-hr bandh affects normal life in Imphal
Normal life in Imphal Valley districts was disrupted due to a 48-hour bandh called by Meira Paibi and five local clubs. The bandh was called to demand the release of five youths who were arrested for carrying firearms and wearing camouflage uniforms. Markets and commercial establishments remained closed and there was minimal vehicular movement. The arrested youths claim to be civilians and village volunteers protecting their villages from attacks by Kuki Zo militants. Protests have intensified, with clashes between protesters and security forces.
