550-year-old Sati stone found

A 550-year-old Sati stone, dedicated to the wife of a musician, has been discovered near Srivilliputtur in Virudhunagar district. The stone depicts the woman with raised arms and wearing ornaments, while her husband is shown playing the mridangam and holding a lyre-like instrument. The stone, measuring two-and-a-half feet tall and three feet wide, was found on the premises of the Amaichiyar Amman temple in Madavarvalagam village. These stones were created to honor women who performed Sati, sacrificing themselves on their husband’s pyre.
