8 new viruses, including one from Covid family, discovered in China

Researchers have discovered eight new never-before-seen viruses, including one belonging to the same category as Covid, on Hainan island in China, the Daily Mail reported. According to the experts, these viruses have a “high probability” of infecting humans if the diseases cross the species barrier. Covid-19, which caused widespread devastation across the world, is widely thought to have its origins in bats who transmitted it to humans via an intermediate animal host. Hainan island inhabits about 9 million people and is isolated from mainland China.
