Keralites’ preference for beef, especially tenderloin, has risen, surpassing chicken wings and mutton chops. The 2024 EnviStats report indicates that 14.34 lakh cattle (1,53,000 tonnes) were slaughtered in Kerala in 2020-21, up from 12.54 lakh in 2018. Pig slaughter also doubled, reaching 2.07 lakh (14,000 tonnes) from 98,000 (7,000 tonnes) in 2018.
