On Karnataka’s private job quota push, a lesson from Haryana, Bihar
The Karnataka government has put its quota bill on hold after facing a massive uproar. The bill was designed to facilitate reservation for locals in private jobs. This decision was taken after various stakeholders expressed disappointment and raised concerns about the potential outcomes of the bill’s implementation. The Karnataka State Employment of Local Industries Factories Establishment Act Bill sought to cap employment for non-locals in private companies within the state. Specifically, it proposed reserving 50 percent of managerial roles and 70 percent of non-managerial jobs for local candidates.
