Protection for live-in couples a tacit nod to ‘illicit ties’, says HC

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has denied police protection to a couple claiming to be in a live-in relationship, citing insufficient evidence to confirm the nature of their relationship. The court stated that granting police protection in such cases could be seen as indirectly endorsing “illicit relationships.” The woman, around 40, is a divorcee with children, while the man, 44, is still married with grown-up children.
