After sunset: Why ozone scare is real for Delhi and its neighbours
An analysis by the Centre for Science and Environment revealed that ground-level ozone levels increased in 10 metropolitan areas of India during the summer, with Delhi being the most affected. Delhi-NCR recorded 176 days of exceedance. Elevated ozone levels were noted at night across all cities. Ground-level ozone, a harmful gas, poses serious health risks, especially to those with respiratory issues. The analysis highlights that even upscale and green neighborhoods in Delhi-NCR were impacted. The Centre for Science and Environment suggested the need for a robust public information system to alert citizens about ozone build-ups.
