Diplomats stay on in Bangladesh, families & others sent home

India withdrew non-essential staff and their families from its high commission in Dhaka due to continued violence in Bangladesh. The commission remains functional with diplomats and officials. The BNP expressed a desire for healthy relations with India, amid an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus. India’s government confirmed the staff return was voluntary and through commercial flights. The official said BNP workers were working to quell violence in the country, including against minorities.
