Airtel, Jio & Voda to TRAI: Time to regulate Google, WhatsApp & others

Telecom operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea urged TRAI to introduce new regulations for messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, arguing they provide similar services to traditional mobile operators. They also supported TRAI’s proposal for a pan-India Unified Services Authorisation, marking the first major telecom licensing reform in 30 years to simplify regulations and reduce costs.
