Oil rises nearly 2% on upbeat US economic data, geopolitical tensions

Brent crude futures were up $1.51, or 1.89%, at $81.27 a barrel by 11:57 a.m. EDT (1557 GMT). US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose by $1.44, or 1.87%, to $78.42.
