Subedar major (retd) V B Dixit, who retired in 1994, rejoined his unit in the 1999 Kargil war. He played a pivotal role in boosting soldier morale in previous wars. During the Kargil conflict, he initiated the first Bofors gun firing. His military contributions earned him notable citations from Indian presidents.
