‘Acted like a green light’: First rioter to breach Capitol during January 6 riots sentenced to nearly 4.5 years

Michael Sparks, the first rioter to enter the Capitol on January 6, 2021, has been sentenced to 53 months in prison for interfering with police and obstructing Congress. Sparks was also ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution. Judge Kelly noted Sparks’s intent was to obstruct the certification process. Approximately 1,500 people have been charged for the riot.
