Bangladesh lifts ban on main Islamist party

Bangladesh’s new authorities have lifted the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, the country’s largest Islamist party. The ban was imposed by ousted leader Sheikh Hasina in August 2024 due to alleged terrorism links. The new government found no evidence supporting these claims, enabling Jamaat to participate in elections once again.
