India has appointed its first female head of mission in Pakistan after 77 years of independence. Geetika Srivastava, a 2005 cadre IFS officer, has been appointed as the new Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad. Currently serving as a Joint Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, she will lead the Indian High Commission in Pakistan. This appointment marks a significant milestone as all previous heads of mission in Pakistan have been male diplomats since 1947.
