Urgen Tamang, a former Indian Army havildar, was misled into joining the Ukraine conflict instead of a promised security job in Russia. Following months of distress and intervention by the Indian government and local efforts, he returned to Kalimpong. His emotional homecoming occurred just before Durga Puja.
