‘We seek fresh start’, says Dissanayake after winning Sri Lanka presidential polls

Anura Kumara Dissanayake emerged victorious in Sri Lanka’s presidential election, unseating President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Emphasizing national unity, he plans to renegotiate the $2.9 billion IMF bailout agreement amid public discontent. The election saw a high turnout with about 75% of the country’s 17 million eligible voters casting their ballots. Polling was conducted at over 13,400 stations across 22 electoral districts, with around 75% of Sri Lanka’s 17 million eligible voters participating.
