California apologizes for slavery, its effects on Black Americans

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law formally apologizing for slavery and its effects on Black Americans. This is part of a series of reparations bills aimed at addressing racial disparities. Although no direct payment legislation was passed, Newsom approved a budget with up to $12 million for reparations legislation.
