Why Toyota will no longer sponsor LGBTQ+ Pride parades
Toyota has decided to end its sponsorship of cultural events like LGBTQ+ Pride in the US, citing the politicised debate around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programmes. The company will also stop participating in cultural surveys and the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. This follows criticism from right-wing commentator Robby Starbuck, who opposes DEI initiatives. Toyota joins other companies, including Ford and Harley-Davidson, in reducing DEI efforts, despite research showing consumers, especially Gen Z, favour brands supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
