Hurricane Nigel strengthens, gaining Category 2 status far from land out in the Atlantic

Hurricane Nigel reached Category 2 status with sustained winds of 100 mph, though it may intensify further before weakening over the Atlantic Ocean. Located 590 miles east of Bermuda, it poses a potential threat of swells and dangerous surf conditions to the island. However, no coastal warnings are currently in effect. The storm is expected to begin weakening on Thursday and transition into a strong post-tropical cyclone by Friday.
