Madras HC quashes defamation case on speaker Muthuvelayudha Perumal Appavu

Madras High Court has quashed a criminal defamation case against Tamil Nadu assembly speaker Muthuvelayudha Perumal Appavu. The defamation complaint was filed by AIADMK’s M Babu Murugavel, who lacked authorisation and locus standi. The complaint alleged that Appavu’s claim of 40 AIADMK MLAs wanting to join DMK post-Jayalalithaa’s death was defamatory.
