TN notifies Madras univ V-C search panel without UGC nominee

By on September 21, 2023 0 9 Views

The Tamil Nadu government has formed a three-member search panel for selecting a vice-chancellor for the University of Madras, excluding the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman’s nominee. This move escalates the standoff with governor R N Ravi, who had included the UGC nominee in the committee. The committee will recommend a panel of three names to the governor, as per the Madras University Act. The state government argues that existing Acts and university statutes do not require a UGC nominee, while the governor insists on it citing UGC regulations.
