Legacy waste removal work stops at dumping grounds

The condition of the garbage dumping grounds in Mohali and Kharar has not improved, with contractors halting remediation work. The contractor for the Kharar site has fled, while the contract has ended for the Mohali site, where 300,000 tonnes of garbage remains. Efforts are being made to solve the problem, with fresh tenders to be opened within a week. An alternative site is also being sought for the waste being brought daily. Another company will be hired to complete the remediation work.
