No protocol breached during HIV+ child surgery: GMCH

Hospital officials in Chandigarh have stated that there was no breach of protocol during the operation of a child who was found to be HIV positive. The seven-year-old patient had been admitted to the hospital for an ear infection and was later found to be HIV positive after surgery. Hospital officials have clarified that there are no guidelines to test patients for HIV before surgery or admission and that universal precautions should be taken. They also emphasized that it is not ethical to deny treatment to patients who test positive for HIV.
