Scientists are using RNA sequencing to resurrect the extinct Tasmanian Tiger species. By extracting RNA from desiccated remains, gene editing will be used for the first time to recreate an extinct species. This project has significant implications as RNA sequencing can unravel the mysteries of extinct species, providing insights into their genetic makeup, gene activity, and biological processes. It could also be used to decipher the causes of past pandemics by studying RNA from old viruses.
