Syrian President Assad in China, seeks exit from diplomatic isolation

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has arrived in Hangzhou, China for his first visit since 2004. Assad will attend the opening ceremony of the Asian Games and meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. China’s support for Assad challenges international norms and could further marginalize China, but President Xi seems unconcerned.
