Brazil favela activist plants green roofs to combat heat wave
An environmental activist in Rio de Janeiro is planting “green roofs” on homes in poor neighborhoods to help lower temperatures inside. The project aims to combat the effects of a late winter heatwave, which is expected to reach record highs in major cities in coming days. The green roofs, made up of heat-absorbing plants, act as insulators, reducing the need for cooling and heating. The activist hopes that more people will adopt the idea of green roofs in Brazilian communities.
