Indian films have always reflected the mood of society: Javed Akhtar

Renowned writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar believes that Indian cinema has always mirrored the society it represents. He spoke about how different eras in Indian cinema reflected the virtues and values prevalent at the time, from self-destruction to rebellion against the feudal system. Akhtar also praised the late BJP leader Arun Jaitley for his support in passing the Copyright Amendment Bill of 2012, which has been instrumental in helping the film industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed concern about the declining reading habits among the new generation and blamed parents for not instilling the love for reading in their children.
