US ambassador to Japan calls Chinese ban on Japanese seafood ‘economic coercion’

US Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, has accused China of using “economic coercion” against Japan by imposing a ban on Japanese seafood imports. The ban was a response to the release of treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean. Emanuel criticized China for fishing in Japan’s economic waters while simultaneously imposing an embargo on Japanese fish.
