NGT orders quick & decisive action to protect Narmada from pollution

The National Green Tribunal has directed the Madhya Pradesh government to take measures to preserve the ecology of the Narmada River. A petition expressed concern over untreated sewage being discharged into the river, which flows through 14 cities and towns in the state. The petition highlighted that only a small portion of the sewage generated is treated, with the rest being released directly into the river. The tribunal has instructed the authorities to collect data on pollution levels and take action against polluting industries. The Narmada River is of immense ecological and socio-economic importance to the region.
