The chief minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, announced that organ donors in the state will receive “full state honours” during their funeral. The state is encouraging doctors and nurses to participate in an “honour walk” for deceased organ donors, where they walk with the donor’s remains as a mark of respect. Tamil Nadu is known for its pioneering work in organ transplants and has won national awards for its performance. The state has over 6,000 patients waiting for kidneys and over 4,000 waiting for livers.
