Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that 13 seats in the state’s legislative assembly will be reserved for women, in accordance with the Women’s Reservation Bill. Sawant believes this move will empower women and encourage their participation in politics. Although no specific timeline was mentioned for the implementation of the reservation, BJP MLA Delilah Lobo stated that it may come into effect for the 2027 Goa assembly elections, depending on the completion of the Census and delimitation work. Sawant also expressed confidence in the BJP’s chances of winning the upcoming assembly elections and welcomed the Janata Dal (S)’s decision to join the BJP-led NDA, stating that it would strengthen the alliance in Karnataka and South India.
