Aurangabad onion traders to abstain from auctions
Onion traders in Aurangabad have extended support to their colleagues in Nashik, who have been on strike since September 20. The Nashik traders are boycotting onion auctions to demand lower market fees, direct sales to consumers by central agencies, and the withdrawal of export duties. The Aurangabad traders have decided to abstain from the auction process on Monday and Tuesday in solidarity. They allege that the government is using traders to lower onion procurement rates, causing losses for them and farmers. The Nashik traders are appealing to traders’ associations in other districts to join their agitation.
