‘Even our 1.4bn population can’t fill all vacant homes’: Ex-official lays bare China’s property crisis

With over 1.4 billion people, China is the second most populous country in the world today. Yet, even its staggering population will not be able to fill the astronomical number of empty apartments littered across the country. Or at least that’s what a former official feels. In a rare public critique of China’s property crisis, former deputy head of the statistics bureau He Keng said that experts have estimated up to 3 billion vacant homes in the country, Reuters reported.
