The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to appoint a senior IPS officer to investigate into a recent case of alleged slapping of a boy by his classmates at a private school in UP’s Muzaffarnagar. Terming the incident “serious”, the case is an example of “failure” on the part of the UP government in complying with the provisions of the Right To Education Act. A video of the incident showed their teacher encouraging her students to slap the eight-year-old Muslim boy.
