The civic body in Ahmedabad is implementing the concept of a ‘sponge city’ to combat waterlogging during monsoons. A fund of Rs 250 crore has been allocated for an urban flood management plan, which includes lake interlinking and the installation of ecobloc stormwater management and infiltration tank systems. The Bandhan Trikona area will serve as a pilot project for the installation of ecoblocs. Ahmedabad currently has 115 waterlogging hotspots, mainly in the South Zone. The plan also includes interlinking lakes and implementing a real-time flood warning system. The National Disaster Management Authority will provide Rs 50 crore annually for the project.
