Cauvery water row: Karnataka govt spent Rs 123 crore on advocates

While disputes over sharing river water have had state governments at odds with each other, farmers in distress and activists shouting themselves hoarse at protest rallies, lawyers appearing for the state have coolly raked in the moolah. Information from the water resources department under a RTI query shows Karnataka has spent a total Rs 123 crore on advocates who argue for the state in the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT), Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal (KWDT) and Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT).
