Iran wedding fire toll rises to 114, at least 150 injures
A fire at a Christian wedding in northern Iraq has killed at least 114 people and injured 150, with authorities warning that the death toll may rise. The fire occurred in Nineveh province, near the city of Mosul. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but initial reports suggest fireworks at the venue may have sparked it. The wedding hall was reportedly decorated with highly flammable cladding that was illegal in the country. Iraq’s shrinking Christian minority has been targeted by extremist groups in the past, leading many to leave the country.
