A heavy rainstorm caused significant flooding in the New York metropolitan area, leading to the shutdown of the subway system, flooded streets and highways, and flight delays. Up to 5 inches of rain fell overnight, with more expected throughout the day. The mayor and governor both declared states of emergency. Although no storm-related deaths or critical injuries were reported, residents faced difficulties in navigating the waterlogged city. Traffic came to a standstill, and some drivers abandoned their vehicles. Subway stations and basements were flooded, and subway and bus services were severely disrupted.
