The Law Commission has submitted a report to the law ministry stating that it is not advisable to change the age of consent under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in India. The Commission argued that adolescents aged 16 to 18 should be considered children and should have the protection of the law. They also recommended introducing guided judicial discretion in sentencing cases involving children in this age group.
