Karnataka told to give 3k cusecs, gets 12tmcft relief
The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu daily until October 15, while rejecting Tamil Nadu’s plea for the release of 12.2 tmcft of backlog water. In response, Karnataka plans to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court and file a review petition before CWMA. The state argues that it cannot comply with the directive due to a lack of water in its reservoirs. The CWMA’s decision comes after the Supreme Court refused to interfere with its earlier order for Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu.
