Eight tourists dead as bus falls into gorge in Nilgiris

Eight tourists from Tenkasi were killed when their bus fell into a gorge near Marapalam on the Ooty-Mettupalayam ghat road. The bus driver lost control due to failed brakes and slippery road conditions caused by rain and thick mist. Fire and rescue service personnel and police rescued the remaining passengers and took them to the hospital. Four passengers are in serious condition. Investigations are ongoing and a case has been registered with the police.
