Trial yet to begin even after 4 yrs, HC gives bail to accused

The High Court in Jodhpur has granted bail to an accused under the NDPS Act who had been in judicial custody for the past four years. The court expressed its dissatisfaction with the delay in the trial due to the disappearance of police officials as prosecution witnesses. It called it a lapse on the part of the prosecution and stated that the accused’s right to a fair and speedy trial had been violated. The court has requested suggestions and steps from the ADGP to streamline the process of recording evidence.
