‘Marwari-Gujarati’ housing ad near sparks controversy
An advertisement for luxury flats in Mira Road (East) that stated a preference for Marwari and Gujarati families has sparked controversy. The MNS party got involved, claiming that the ad was a way of refusing homes to Maharashtrians. The property search portal, Millions Acre, withdrew the post and apologized to the MNS chief. In response to this incident and a previous case of discrimination in Mulund, local cooperative authorities warned housing societies of legal consequences if they discriminated against any section of people. The circular emphasized that discrimination based on caste, religion, language, or sex was illegal.
