CPM faces heat over headscarf remark

The remark made by CPM state committee member K Anilkumar that Muslim girls in Malappuram are saying no to headscarves due to the influence of the CPM has been strongly condemned by various Muslim organizations. The IUML and Samastha criticized the CPM for intruding into religious beliefs and customs. They stated that the CPM’s attempts to reform education and promote gender neutrality were part of their anti-religious agenda. The IUML also pointed out that Muslim girls continue to wear headscarves and play important leadership roles. Anilkumar has stated that he will stand by the party’s position on the matter.
