New York City college student released from Dubai shortly after receiving one-year jail term

Elizabeth Polanco De Los Santos, a New York college student who was sentenced to one year in prison for an incident at a Dubai airport, has been released. The 21-year-old’s sentence was commuted just one day after it was imposed. De Los Santos had been accused of assaulting and insulting a female airport employee. She is now relieved to return to the United States after her months-long detention in the UAE.
