LPG subsidy for poor households raised by Rs 100 to Rs 300

The Indian government has increased the LPG subsidy for beneficiaries of the ‘Ujjwala’ scheme by Rs 100 to Rs 300, reducing the cost of each refill for poor households. This move is aimed at countering Opposition criticism over inflation and the Congress party’s offering of cylinders at a lower price. It is also part of the government’s efforts to reach out to economically weaker sections ahead of upcoming elections.
