CUMTA moots entity to penalise parking offences

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has proposed the creation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for parking management in Chennai, Avadi, and Tambaram corporations. The SPV would have the power to regulate parking, impose fines, and tow away vehicles. The proposal also includes plans for more parking bays, a multi-level parking system, and an app-based parking system. CUMTA plans to introduce annual passes, digital booking of slots, and pricing based on location and land value to encourage the use of public transport. The Greater Chennai Corporation also plans to monetize interior streets for parking.
