Nonbelievers in Nigeria, including atheists and agnostics, face persecution and threats in a deeply religious country. The situation has worsened since the arrest and imprisonment of Mubarak Bala, the leader of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, for blasphemy. Blasphemy is outlawed in almost half of African countries, including Nigeria.
