Damodar Valley Corporation plan to release more water adds to flood worries

The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) plans to release more water from dams in West Bengal, which could worsen the flood situation in certain areas. However, water levels have started to recede in some regions due to reduced discharge from DVC barrages and reservoirs. The heavy rainfall in South Bengal has been unprecedented, with Barisha village recording 520mm of rainfall in just 24 hours. Experts believe a shift in the low-pressure system and its prolonged presence contributed to the extreme downpour. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with NDRF and SDRF teams deployed in affected districts.
